Sugar free AND tasty. Is it possible?

15 Jun

Help!

I’ve been told that I need to cut sugar out of my diet. This is an attempt at weight loss which I need to do for my health.

However as far as I can tell no sugar = no taste.

There are no known recipes in my CWA cookbooks for sugarless icecream or chocolate biscuits. (What a surprise.)

Anyone got any cake, biscuit, slice, yummy, sweet, more’ish recipes that are sugar free out there – if so please send them to me.

And before you ask … I don’t like vegetables so they’re not a great substitute.

CSR have a sugar/sweetener blend called Smart Sugar – there are some recipes that use it on their website : http://www.csrsugar.com.au/Better-For-You/CSR-Smart-Sugar-Blends.aspx

There may also be some recipes on the Better Health Channel that work for you (eg. Banana Fluff) : http://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/bhcv2/bhcsite.nsf/pages/bhc_recipes?opendocument

Yeah – see if you can find a sugar substitute that you can live with. I’ve tried a number and most leave a strange aftertaste for me but balanced with the need to not have sugar it is the price you pay I guess. Xylitol is probably the least likely to leave an aftertaste but too much gives you the trots so… good to have other options.

Can you have fructose or other forms of sugar? Just thinking that some fruits like bananas can be used to sweeten muffins etc so long as you like bananas. Also there are things like agave syrup.

I can have sugar. It’s just supposed to be one way to drop weight when you’ve been carrying too much for awhile. Fell off the wagon today after only 2 days as I discovered that I hadn’t been thinking things through and realised that my daily yoghurt has sugar. The bought myself some chocolate and figured I can start again next week …
